Introduction: When man turned away from God in disobedience, he lost the blessing and protection of God. Man came under a curse and the power of the devil. Then the Devil was able to bring pain and weakness and sickness to man's body. However, God in His mercy still desires to bless man. God still wants to save man from his sin and from sickness. Christ Jesus bore our sins and also our sicknesses when He died for us on the cross. This is the good news of salvation. Therefore - by faith in Jesus we may now receive physical healing for our bodies, as well as forgiveness and peace for our souls.

Memory Work: 1 Peter 2:24

" Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness- by whose stripes you were healed".

We shall learn about “Divine Healing” from the following four steps:

1. Who brings sickness and Who brings Health?
2. The Purpose of Christ’s death on the cross
3. Three Means of Healing: (1) God’s Word,(2) God’s Spirit, (3) Our Faith.
4. The Authority that is given to Believers.

1. WHO BRINGS SICKNESS AND WHO BRINGS HEALTH?

The serpent, the Devil, Satan first deceived man and tempted him to disobey God. Pain, sickness, and death came to man because man disobeyed God. All of Genesis 3 traces the root cause of all human sufferings back to the Devil. Jesus Himself said this about the Devil: “He was a murderer from the beginning”. Satan – the Devil brought sickness upon a wealthy good man named “Job”, which is written in the Book of Job Chapter One in the Old Testament. To understand this, let us read a story of a woman in Luke’s Gospel account of Jesus Healing Ministry.
Satan bound her 18 years! “And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus her, He called her to Him and said to her,” Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity”. And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God”( Luke 13:11-13).
The woman had a spirit of infirmity for 18 years. She was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. Jesus loosed her from infirmity. But then, Jesus brought her healing and health.
Jesus Heals you! Let us read God’s word from Acts 10:38: “ How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the Devil, for God was with Him”. Jesus went about doing good to all people. He healed all who were oppressed by the devil. The reason:“God was with Him”. The Devil oppresses people with sickness. All sickness can be traced back to its source – the Devil. Sickness is part of “the works of the Devil”. But, we see here that Jesus is the Healer.
Jehovah – our Doctor: God’s Promise: ”and said, “ if you diligently head the voice of the LORD Your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians, for I AM the LORD who heals you”( Exodus 15:26).
God promises: To put none of the diseases of Egypt upon the – to heal them, who obey Him. Conditions are: you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God, do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes. The LORD is our Healer. Another way of translating Exodus 15:26 is: “I AM JEHOVAH, your Healer”. God promises to do two things for His people who serve Him: (1) To bless their Bread and water,(2) To take sickness away from them.
“So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you” (Exodus 23:25).
Sicknesses do not belong to God’s people. It belongs to the enemies of God’s people. “ And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you”( Deut.7:15).
Jesus Heals diseases: David says that the Lord did two things for him: (1) The Lord forgave all his iniquities(sins),(2) The Lord healed all of his diseases. “Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases”( Psalm 103:3). Note the word ‘all’. God’s will is healing:
The Apostle John wishes three things for his Christian friend: (1) That he might prosper,(2) That he might be in health,(3) That his soul might prosper. “ Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers”(3 John 2). Note that Apostle John was writing to a model believer, Gaius who was walking in the truth and doing faithfully his duty as a Christian.
All the Promises of God: We can claim all the promises of God by saying “yes” and “amen” in Jesus. 2.Corinthians 1:19-20 says: “ For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, Who was preached among you by us – by me, Silvanus, and Timothy – was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. For, all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us”. Second Corinthians 1:20 goes against the notion that the promise of physical healing is not for Christians today. All the promises of God are (now) for us. That includes all Christians. It means this: “ Every promise that fits my situation and meets my need is for me now”.
Purpose Driven Life: Jesus manifested (He came into the world) to destroy the works of the devil. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the Devil”( 1. John 3:8). God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit to do good and heal all that were oppresses by the Devil. Acts 10:38: All three persons of the God-head are actively present in the ministry of healing. The Father anointed the Son with the Spirit. The result was healing for all.
The Father’s Will: The Father’s will is perfectly revealed to us in the life of Jesus. This is true for healing and for everything else that Jesus did. Jesus Christ came to do the will of God the Father. God the Father worked Jesus’ miracles for Him. Jesus said, “ I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father Who sent Me”( John 5:30 b).
Jesus healed all – everyone who came to Him. Jesus healed every kind of sickness and disease. Any person who came to Jesus for healing was healed. This is what the Gospels show us in every case. In an instance, Jesus did not heal many people, because of the People’s unbelief. “ When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them”( Luke 4:40).
God never changes: God never changes. Malachi 3:6 says,” For I am the LORD, I do not change; therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob”. “Jesus Christ is the same Yesterday, Today, and forever”. The truth of the Gospel is rock solid and unchanging. This based on the unchanging nature of God Himself.

2. THE PURPOSE OF CHRIST’s DEATH ON THE CROSS:

“ Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed”( Isaiah 53:4,5).
Jesus is our Doctor: Jesus Christ bore our infirmities, our sicknesses and our sins in our place (Matt. 8:17; 1.Pet.2:24). As a result, we can be dead to sins, we can live unto righteousness, and we can be healed.. These three outcomes we can have in our lives. Both Matthew and Peter are quoting from Isaiah 53:4-5. The correct way to read Isaiah 53:4 is, “surely He has borne our sicknesses and carried our pains”. “He” is , Christ Jesus. In 1 Peter 2:24, the word “healed” is taken from the Greek word that gave us the English word for Doctor. Truly, Jesus is our Doctor.
Jesus Redeems us! Jesus was made a curse in our place. Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law.” The curse of the law’( Gal.3:13) means the curse that results from breaking the law. This curse is fully described in Deuteronomy 28:15-68. It includes every form of sickness. “Christ has redeemed us form the curs of the law, having became a curse for us ( for it is written ‘ cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”). Every kind of sickness were included in the curse of the law.
Choose life and blessing: God sets forth two opposite pairs: Either (a) life and healing or (b) death and cursing. It is left to man to choose. God tells us to choose life and blessing. “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life that both you and your descendants may live”( Deut.30:19).

Father God, We come to Your throne of grace for mercy. Lord Jesus You took our infirmities and sins and bore them on the cross. We are healed by Your stripes, LORD Jesus. The Blood of Jesus Christ God's Son cleanses us from all sins. LORD Jesus, heal this person who is suffering because of sickness. All things are possible with You. Heal him and bless in the Name of Jesus. I cast out the spirit of infirmity form her in the mighty Name of Jesus. Let her look up and glorify God. Jehovah - Rapha the LORD our Healer, we praise and thank You. In Jesus Name, I ask and pray. Amen. Thank You Lord Jesus!
