Come, Listen and Obey the Words of Jesus

“ And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the storms beat vehemently upon the house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.” ( Luke 6:46-49).

These words were spoken by Jesus. He is our Lord. He is the lion of tribe of Judah. You need to confess: “Jesus is Lord”. Then you are born again or saved. In addition to that salvation experience, we need to obey His teachings, in order to have a successful Christian life. Someone said: “ Love is not what you say, Love is what you do”. When you love Jesus, you will obey what He says to you.

According to verse 47, there are three steps to have a victorious day to day life. They are:1. Come to Jesus 2. Hear (Listen) His sayings (teaching) 3. Do (obey) them.

3 Steps to successful Christian Life:

Jesus said:”Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”(Matt.11:28). The first step is coming to Jesus. Labouring people, heavy laden people, tired people, they all find their rest in His presence. The presence of Jesus restores your soul and mind and intellect.

The second step is listening to Jesus words. Simon Peter, one of the disciples of the Lord Jesus said: “ Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life” ( John. 6:68).His words are the words of eternal life. These are words of life, which contains spiritual power. Come and hear the words of the Lord. In the book of Revelation, one statement is repeated seven times in chapters 2 and 3:

“ He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches” ( Rev.2:7,11,17,29,3:6,13,22).

We need to understand how important it is to listen to what the Holy Spirit says to believers, Christians and Churches. May the Lord grant us the listening ears! Listen means to hear God’s words. Listen!

The third step is: “ doeth them”. Obeying the words of Jesus. This is the important step. Let us say: Coming to Jesus is 30%, Listening to Jesus is 30% and obeying His words is 40% The pass mark is 100%. Would you like to be a 100% disciple of the Lord Jesus, then fulfil all the three steps.

LUKE 6:48 Deep Foundation, House on the Rock

Today, I am going to preach to you five words of Jesus from Gospels and Acts. Before that, let us understand the three steps through an illustration by our Lord in verse 48: “ He is like a man which built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the storm beat vehemently upon the house, and could not shake it; for it was founded upon a rock”.

Successful believer is like a man, which built a House. Before, constructing a house, one needs to lay the foundation: There are three types of foundation:1. Deep foundation,2. Shallow foundation,3. No foundation.

This man (wise) digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock. This reveals about artificial foundation and natural foundation (Rock). In O.T. Rock represents God, And in N.T. Rock represents Lord Jesus Christ. We are the clay ( Gen.2:7) and He is the Rock ( Matt.16;18). His words are the foundation for our spiritual life. When you build your life upon the rock, it will have 1. Stability, 2. Strength and 3. Safety ( 3s of a building). The LORD is building His church, which is the House of God, which is The Church of God.

Let us Meditate the following words of Our Lord Jesus :

1. “ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you” ( Matthew 6:33).

2. “ And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed”(Mark 1:35).

3. “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again”. ( LUKE 6:38)

4. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”( Acts of Apostles 10:38).

5. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”. ( John 10:10)

These are the five important Gospel words, which I would like to share with you this morning. Are you ready? Good Morning!

Firstly,Matt.6:33 is about “Priority leads to Prosperity”. God’s kingdom is our priority. Seek means spend. Our time and resources must be spent in His Kingdom. Righteousness is right standing before God. A preacher must be diligent in rightly dividing the word of truth. I am standing before God and preaching God’s word to you. Do not worry about food, water & clothes. God is our Provider. Have peace of mind. Let us seek Him first. All these things shall be added to you.

Secondly, Mark 1:35 is about our Prayer life. Prayer is communication with God Almighty. Jesus rose up early in the Morning about 4.00a.m. and went out into a solitary place and prayed. In order to have our best life, I need to pray early in the morning. Go out, walk and pray in a nice place. God will show you wonders in your life. Your needs will be met. A Disciple follows his Teacher in prayer life. Pray the Lord’s prayer. Confess Psalm 23. Talk with God. Listen to Him. He will talk to you about everything in your life. He is a good God.

Thirdly, Luke 6:38 is about our Financial freedom life: Everyone in this world wants to prosper financially. If you have a need, sow a seed. Sow in the kingdom of God. Sow in the Gospel work. Sow your seeds in the good land, you will receive 100 fold harvest. Jesus command: Give. One word, if you obey, it will change your lifestyle behaviour. And it will be given to you. Men shall give into your bosom. Believe the words of Jesus. So many people are stingy. The blessing will come upon you, if you are generous. Tithes & Offerings open the windows of Heaven, and He will pour out a blessing upon you. Give, share, be generous and be blessed.

Fourthly, Acts 10:38 is about the earthly Ministry of Lord Jesus. He was specially anointed with the Holy Ghost and power. He went about doing good. Jesus is good. He does only good to us. He healed all who were oppressed by the devil. He did deliverance ministry. He rescues all who are bound by devil in dark places. Come out to the light, in Jesus name. God is with us. We can, you can do good to others! Do good, help the poor and needy. Then you shall have His divine nature.

Fifthly, John 10:10 is about Abundant life. Life, Abundant life and Eternal life. Have abundant life in you. Devil’s strategy is : 1. Stealing,2.Killing and Destroying, he is a thief. Thief is a bad guy. The opposite is true. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He came to give you zoe ( God kind of life). You shall live for many years through this life of God. You shall have abundant life through Lord Jesus. Amen. God bless you by these words of eternal life. Be blessed!
