SAVIOR JESUS THE SON OF GOD (IMMANUEL=GOD WITH US)

“The Geneology of Jesus”

by Pas. C. Peter Chandran

Introduction Today, let us meditate how Jesus Christ was born in this world. The birth of Jesus was a miraculous event, a prophetical event. Jesus is wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. It will be useful for you to meditate on His birth. It is necessary to understand this real event, especially for theological students.

1. Who is Mary?

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost” (Matt.1:18).

I would like to provide four answers to this Question:

  1. Mary was a virgin
  2. Mary was engaged to Joseph
  3. Mary became Mother of Jesus
  4. Mary was Joseph’s wife

Virgin means, she never knew a man before marriage. She lived a holy life, and is living a holy life. God was willing to chose a virgin to bring Messiah- the Savior into this world. This event is mentioned prophetically in Isaiah 7:14:

“ Therefore the Lord himself shall give a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call his name Immanuel”.

Mary received this blessed privilege. The reason was, she kept her virginity. Dear ladies, just like Mary, if you keep your precious virginity, you will bring an important person into this world. This self control will bring divine wisdom into your life. Therefore, you should protect your virginity like your very life.

Secondly, Mary was engaged to Joseph her husband. Not only your upbringing, it is an important matter for whom you give your words of assurance. She was engaged to a man named Joseph. Engaged woman is a betrothed woman. In English culture, if a man likes a woman in marriage, they exchange ring as a sign of their covenant. This is a sign for the promised blessing. In Hebrews 6:14, God’s word says: “Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee”.

Thirdly, it is written that Mary was become the Mother of Jesus. It is necessary to maintain Holiness between Engagement and Marriage. Before Mary became wife of Joseph, it was found that she was conceived. How was it possible? The Bible says: “...Before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost”. For a good family life, woman should be anointed with the Holy Spirit. Then only, you shall receive that strength. All things are possible to him that believes. Doubt vanished from Joseph.

Fourthly, It is said that Mary was the wife of Joseph. In the natural order, virgin will become mother of a child after marriage. But Mary, first became the mother of the Son of God, and then became the wife of the Holy man Joseph.

  • Virgin Mary
  • Engaged Mary
  • Mother Mary
  • Mary wife of Joseph

“ For he that is mighty hath done to me great things: and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation” ( Luke 1:49,50).

2. Who is Joseph?

“ Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. But while, he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for he shall save his people from their sins”(Matt.1:19-21).

The Holy Spirit here shows who Joseph was and his characteristic traits. Joseph was May’s husband. Before he having sexual intercourse with her, the Bible says, she was conceived of the Holy Spirit. In addition to that, it says that he was a righteous man. What are the traits of a Righteous man?

  1. He did not shame her publicly
  2. He was thinking in his mind divorce her secretly
  3. Mother Mary
  4. He was thinking and pondering over this matter ( He did not doubt her).

3. The Angel of the Lord:

The Angel of the Lord appeared to such a holy man Joseph. The Angel of the Lord revealed and proved who this righteous man was! Joseph was called, “ the Son of David”. David was the king in Jerusalem. He was the second king in Israel. Joseph was born in that Royal lineage. Therefore, he behaved very nicely. Three messages were proclaimed to him by the Angel of the Lord:

  1. Fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife
  2. She shall bring forth a Son
  3. Thou shalt call His name Jesus.

These words were faithful words. They were fulfilled just like that. The Angel of the Lord appeared to him in the dream. He brought a real God’s Message. Not only that , he commanded Joseph. Joseph obeyed him and did according to his words.

  1. Joseph took his wife Mary
  2. He did not know her until she brought forth her first born Son.

Joseph did three things. First, he became a husband of Mary. For a while, he did not know her, and lived a holy life. In the position of a father, prophetically, he named the Son of God Jesus.

Joseph lived a holy life in love and was blameless. Then he committed himself to the family life and lived a holy life. These truths can be established through the words of God in Ephesians 1:4 and 1 Peter 1:15,16:

  1. Positonal Holiness
  2. Behavior Holiness

“ According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that, we should be holy and without blame before him in love”(Ephesians 1:4).“For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy; neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth” ( Leviticus 11:44).

Joseph was a righteous man. He also knew that he was a holy man and lived a holy life. Joseph loved Mary and lived a righteous and holy life. The God who called us is holy. We should live a holy life in all our conversation and live a victorious life. This is the will of God, even our sanctification.

4. Prophet Isaiah:

“Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” ( Matt.1:22,23).

The LORD filled the Prophets with the Holy Spirit, they prophesied the words of God. Specially, they prophesied about the birth of the Messiah, very accurately:

  • A virgin shall be, with child, and shall bring forth a Son
  • They shall call His name Immanuel.

Whatever the Prophet said, it was fulfilled in like manner. We preach this fulfilled prophetical words as the good news to you. We should believe the prophetical words. Just like the prophetical words about the Son of God Jesus, God’s word prophetically declares about our life and ministry. Even in our personal life, God is the LORD.

“For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” ( Jeremiah 29:11).

5. JESUS=Savior (Immanuel= God with us):

“ Then Joseph being raised from the sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife; And knew her not till she had brought forth her first born Son: and, he called his name JESUS.”( Matt.1:24,25).

The meaning of the Name Jesus is Savior. In Theology (there are 10 chapters in Theology), the word Salvation means forgiveness of sins, liberty, bodily healing, deliverance from demonic occult, victorious life, redemption and prosperous life etc. Yes, look to our precious Lord Jesus Christ:

  1. Jesus saves you,
  2. Jesus heals you,
  3. Jesus delivers you,
  4. Jesus prospers you and
  5. Jesus blesses you.

Conclusion:

Amen. Praise the LORD Jesus. God manifested in flesh. Jesus God with us. His Name is precious wonderful name. Believe on Jesus. Then you shall be saved. Receive salvation in the mighty name of Jesus. God bless you. Glory to God.

Jesus said: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life”(John 3:16).
