Here is God's picture of a Happy Man. The happiness of the man is described. We see three leading features in this happyman:

1. Happy man's Separation from the world, v.1
>
2. Happy man's Occupation in the world, v.2
3. Happy man's Fruitfulness before the world, v.3

In other words, we can put it in another way, Happy Man's separation unto God, Happy man's communication with God, and Happyman's fruitfulness in God.

SEPARATION

1. Happy man’s separation from the world or separation unto God:

Happy man walks alone. He is separate from the world. A Happy man should not do the following three things;

1. Do not Walk in the counsel of the ungodly,
2. Do not Stand in the path of sinners,
3. Do not Sit in the seat of the scornful.

Walking, Standing and Sitting. You need to examine where you are walking, where you are standing and where you are sitting. Is it pleasing to the LORD? Proverbs 4:14 says: Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Get out of the sinner?s way at once. Have no fellowship with sinners who criticize about others.

“Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor course jesting, which are
not fitting, but rather giving of thanks” (Ephesians 5:4)

We need to walk in the right way. We need to stand in the correct place at right time. We need to sit in the good and higher places. This is the life of holiness or separated sanctified life. Proverbs says:

“Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life will be many. I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk. Your steps will not be hindered and when you run, you will not stumble” (Proverbs 4:10-12).

Narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Walk in Him. Sit in the church on Sundays, stand in your occupation from Monday to Saturday. You will be a Happy Man. Excellence and Diligence are the important virtues.

“Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men” (Proverbs 22:29).

„Excels' means he is prompt in his business. Diligence is one of the seven pillars of Wisdom. You must be a separate person from the wicked, sinners and scorners. Do not have fellowship with them. Tell your friend, I will tell you who you are. This is a saying. The Happy man is separate from the world and committed to his work and has communion with God.

OCCUPATION OR COMMUNION

2. The Happy Man’s Occupation in the world, or communion with God.

I. He delights in the law of the LORD.

He must find great pleasure in the reading, meditation and hearing of the word of God. Jeremiah the prophet says:

“Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart” (Jere. 15:16a).

Find God?s words and eat them spiritually. It is the food for your spirit. Your innerman will become strong. To be healthy spiritually, you need to eat the right food.

Simon Peter was one of the Disciples of Jesus. When He taught one important teaching on the Bread of life, many of His disciples went back and walked with him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, do you also want to go away?” Then Simon Peter answered Him.

“Lord, to whom shall we go? you have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God” (John 6:68-69).

God's Word makes us happy. It is rejoicing of my heart. Jesus words are words of eternal life. God?s word gives us revelation knowledge about Him.

II. He meditates in God’s Word day and night

Note the word “meditate”. It means deep, intense reflection upon what God says. And note “day and night”.

The following are the Bible characters who meditated God?s word. They were successful persons:

1. saac, Gen. 24:63
2. Joshua, Jos. 1:8
3. David, Ps. 1:2; 4:4; 19:14; 119:97
4. Paul, Phil. 4:8

Meditation is the key to success, Exercise is not meditation. Bible meditation is thinking, analyzing and applying God?s word in our life. The Bible says:

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).

Joshua needed a formula for success. The LORD (Yahweh) spoke directly to Joshua. He assured His presence with him and giving him the key to success - meditating upon God?s word. We must meditate upon the word of God day and night and we are promised: (i) Prosperity and (ii) Good Success. These are blessings based on conditions. The success formula is:

Reading God’s Word + Meditation + Speaking God’s Word? Prosperity + Good Success

FRUITFULNESS

3. The Happy Man’s fruitfulness before the world or his fruitfulness in God.

The man who maintains the separation from the world described in verse one and the communion with God described in verse two will be like:

1. A tree
2. He will be like a tree planted
3. He will be like a tree planted by streams of water
4. He will bring forth fruit in its season
5. His leaf shall not wither
6. He shall have divine prosperity.

A tree has life, foliage and fruit or life, beauty and utility. The Happy Man is like a tree planted by the rivers of Water. God takes care of him. Those who are planted in the House of God will flourish like a cedar tree. David Says:

“But I am like a green Olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever” (Psalm 52:8).

Jeremiah the Prophet says:

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is in the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads outs its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7,8).

The man who trusts in the Lord is the Blessed Man. There will be flowing around his roots a constant source of life, freshness, beauty and fruitfulness. No fear of times of drought and barrenness for him. There will be unfailing life and unfading beauty. Whatever he or she does shall prosper.
