Jesus said: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).

Jerusalem means “City of Peace”, our prayer is that the city will live up to its name. Peace (Hebrew Shalom) is a comprehensive word that includes welfare, health, prosperity, and happiness, not just the absence of strife.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces” (Psalm 122:6,7).

Pray means to ask, inquire, request, pray, desire, wish for, demand. The Hebrew word for pray is sha’al (Sha-ahl). In this Psalm, for the sake of God’s people and for the sake of the Lord’s House, we are instructed to seek Jerusalem’s good.

The world desires peace. United Nations speak about peace. Much time, money and lives are spent in the name of peace. People are seeking peace. But, where is peace? Is true peace is possible in you, in the midst of the troubled world? Yes. True peace comes from God.

Prophet Isaiah’s prophecy identifies the true God who gives us this peace which surpasses all understanding. “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). The person mentioned here is Jesus the Son of God. He is the Prince of Peace. His reign will be characterized by Shalom, health, well-being, prosperity, happiness, and cessation of enmity. The New Testament states this required His triumph over satan.

Jesus is our peace. In the midst of storm, He brings you peace. In the world, you will have problems, tribulations and sufferings. But in God, we have peace of mind. His peace is precious. There is no enough money to buy peace. Rich people tried very hard to get peace. The Good News, peace comes from the God of peace. Jesus the Prince of peace said:

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

The Hebrew word for tribulation is thlipsis (thlip-sis); pressure, oppression, stress, anguish, tribulation, adversity, affliction, crushing, squashing, squeezing, distress. The word is used of crushing grapes or olives in a press.

Even in the midst of persecution there is joyful peace in the certainty of Christ Jesus’ victory. You can experience Peace in all your adverse situations. Let us read the Good News.

“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side”. Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awake Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”. Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still”! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:35-41).

In Hydrodynamics this is called Wind-Sea-Ship Interaction! (WSSI). There was a great wind storm. When Jesus said, “Peace, be still” there was a great calm. And they feared exceedingly. Jesus the Son of God is in my life; therefore, I experience the peace of God in my life.

Jesus brings peace into your life! when His joy, His love and His Blessings come into our life we will live a different life. When your heart is opened to Him, He says peace to you. He stills the storm!.

Pursue Peace… Psalm 34:14

Pursue it. Go after peace! There is a reward for your hard work, because you get peace and joy in Jesus. Follow after peace. Until you attain peace, do not give up. David wrote: “Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it(Psalm 34:14). The same concept is repeated in the New Testament. (1 Peter 3:11).

“Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another” (Romans 14:19).“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).

Believers have conflict with the world. But, they are to seek peace, but not at the expense of sacrificing holiness. Do not play with sin, do not think to be nearer to sin. Depart from evil, flee from fornication. Separate yourself from bad friends and bad habits. Look at the Devil and say, “I belong to Jesus”!.

Expect Peace… Psalm 4:8

The LORD alone is the true basis for a peaceful mind. Before you go to bed, read few chapters from the Word of God and Pray to Him. Expect peace of mind. Because, our Lord Jesus has promised to give us peace. you have peace in Him. A godly man knows where to get peace. Psalm 4:8 says::

“I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell on safety”

The angels understood at His birth that Jesus was to be the great peace bringer, as they called out, “Glory to God in the highest: and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14,17; Compare Isaiah 9:7).

Accept Peace… Colossians 3:15

Accept it. Make it your own blessing. Peace of mind, good health and Blessed Family life are all promised to you. God has planned good life, abundant life and life of plenty for His Children.

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful” (Colossians 3:15).

Let the peace of Jesus control your thoughts and emotions. Be thankful. This will guide you in discerning the will of God in a particular situation to make decisions. When His peace rules in your life, everything is good. When He is your number one priority, everything is in its place.

Do not be anxious about anything. It is not gaining merit by many words. But, fully put your trust in the LORD. Prayer and peace are closely connected. Jesus cares for you. You will experience the peace of God.

Claim Peace… Isaiah 26:3

Claim it. Let no one steal it from you! Your first enemy the Devil is a thief and robber. The Devil will take away peace from your mind and fill it with rubbish thoughts, anxieties and burdens. But, this is the time to restore all things that he has stolen from you! It is enough to say enough! Claim your peace and speak with authority.

“Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing causes them to stumble” (Psalm 119:165). “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3).

Claim your promise regarding peace. Concentrate your mind and eyes on Jesus! Trust in Him. Love the Word of God, read and meditate it. Then you will receive His peace.

Enjoy it. Enjoy the deep and abundant peace. This is one among the rewards of following the LORD JESUS. When you are broken in mind, painful, His peace will be in you, The Apostle Paul said:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanks giving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6,7).

It is impossible to describe the peace of God through human thoughts. People around you are anxious and fearful; But you can live a peaceful life! Thank God for the peace in our hearts. This comes through prayer of petition. Proverbs 16:7 says” “When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him”. Commit your life to the LORD. Walk in His ways. Then, God’s peace will be yours. The peace of God surpasses all understanding. Jesus is LORD. Amen.
